​The Alleghany Sparta Trail Association believes everyone should have the opportunity to experience the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We are committed to expanding access to trails and outdoor spaces by supporting projects that make recreation more welcoming, inclusive, and enjoyable for people of all ages, abilities, and experience levels.


Accessibility looks different for every visitor, and no single trail is the right fit for everyone. Hiking Trails

Hiking trails can be found along the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Mountains to Sea Trail, and Doughton Park. Click below to search our local trail database!  

Biking Trails

Biking in Alleghany County, you are treated to the beautiful views for which the Blue Ridge Mountains are famous. Our biking routes are an excellent way to explore the mountains, and climbing those hills make the views at the top even more spectacular!

Urban Walkways

For those who desire a space to walk near the amenities of town, there are three parks available within the town limits of Sparta. 

Paddling Trails

Enjoy calm waters surrounded by scenic hillsides, pastoral meadows, and rolling farmlands on the New River, the oldest river in North America.
